The road to financial freedom is not easy. It is full of ups and downs, curves in the road and brokenness. Yet the road to financial freedom is a good road. It brings peace and hope for a better tomorrow. Seeking God, listening to Him and obeying His word will equip us to follow through when the going is rough.

Seek Him

To live a life of financial freedom we must begin by seeking God first. Not understanding the goodness of God causes us to worry about what we will eat and drink.  When we are afraid, poor financial decisions follow.

Using credit allows us to live beyond our means. Rather than trusting in God and His timing we can trust our own timing. When we use credit, we doubt God’s provision. Credit becomes unnecessary as we learn to trust in what He provides. God has abundance for us and promises when we seek Him, we will find Him.

Listen to Him

Taking time out of lives to listen can be difficult but it is an important piece of stepping into financial freedom. It is imperative to listen to the voice of God, to take time to hear His voice and allow Him to speak to us.  As the saying goes, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.”

God wants to guide us but in our fear and stress we can drown out His words. This is why taking time to listen is so important. It allows us to see our situation in a different light and opens us up to creativity where before we were hopeless. Listening is the doorway to action.

Obey Promptly

In the book The Ten Second Rule, author Clare De Graaf urges us to do what God says immediately. Rather than agonizing over promptings from the Lord, instead we act in 10 seconds on what God has asked of us. Is God prompting you to get your financial house in order?

Being transparent about our finances can be overwhelming at first. It causes uncomfortable dialogue with partners and force us to appraise honestly the important things. Yet, if God is prompting you to move into financial freedom don’t wait. God is ready to do amazing things if we will follow Him!

The road to financial freedom is worth taking. It allows for peace and hope to reign. We can step into our callings as His children when our finances reflect His purposes and word. Seek after God, listen to what he asks of you and then obey. Don’t wait, don’t pause, just obey. There are Financial Fitness seminars on the fourth Thursday of every month and they will get you started on the right track. There is no end to financial resources including books and small group studies by Dave Ramsey and Howard Dayton. God is ready to take you on an incredible journey, are you ready to follow?
