Do you worry about what you will eat, drink or wear? Many of us do because we have an underlying belief in the sow and reap principle when it comes to our provision. If we make good financial decisions, we will reap the benefits.

This is a very popular view and there is no doubt that sowing and reaping have a powerful impact. Yet, when it comes to our provision, God has something very different to say.

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” Matthew 6:26

Not by Works

The traditional way to think of money management is based on performance. If you take good care of the things God has given you, He will take care of you.

This is not true.

God will take care of you no matter what. You are more valuable than the sparrow, which does not sow or reap. As you learn to manage money, He will entrust more to you. All the same He will not leave you without provision for your basic necessities. We need to trust Him and this promise.

Money: A Tool

We think money is what we need.

This is not true.

We need provision and God can use a variety of ways to provide for His children. Elijah was fed by ravens, David was fed in the house of God and 10,000 people were fed with a simple boy’s lunch. Don’t limit yourself to the probable or the impossible. Learn to listen for the voice of God and watch for His provision.

Sparrow Faith

Sparrows don’t sow or reap and they don’t store and hoard. God feeds them. Provision is not dependent on our works, it is dependent on God’s grace.

Sparrows don’t worry about what they are going to eat and drink. They are at peace knowing the Father in Heaven loves them. When this deep revelation is brought home to us, we can act out of faith instead of fear.

There is a huge amount of provision for us and God loves us beyond measure. Once we can accept these truths it will transform how we manage our money. Don’t be satisfied with your present situation. If you struggle to see God’s provision, seek Him for answers. He will come through for you because His heart is to provide.
