“Dead folks tell no tales” these are the words of Harriet Tubman as she put a loaded pistol to a faint-hearted slave she was saving! Between 1850 and 1860 Tubman guided more than 300 slaves from bondage in the southern US to the freedom of the north. Do words and action like the ones above seem extreme to you? They are not in light of the consequences. In Tubman’s case if a slave were caught they would be tortured and forced to reveal information that would jeopardize the life of thousands of other fleeing slaves. What about you? What about the people you are coaching? Have you so caught the vision for their freedom that you would “hold a loaded pistol to their head” giving them the much needed perspective and clarity in a moment of confusion, weakness or fear. These words were not spoken out of fear or frustration but out of love and a vision for freedom! Often time’s words alone do not have the power to move people from debt to freedom, only action. Read James 2:14-25.
People have come to you hoping that you will have the answers to their pain. What they don’t expect is how difficult the path they will have to walk. What they need is a guide. What you have to show them is the path to freedom, step by step. Remember they have never walked the road before. Not everyone will need a gun put to their head, but everyone you coach will need you to do whatever it takes to move them from bondage to freedom. That is the mission you are on so make it known to those around you that the “slave train” is leaving the station with whatever passengers have the courage to jump on board!
