Financial education is overwhelming.
Over the years our office has been inundated with a wealth of financial books, audio books, DVDs and courses. While there seems to be no shortage to financial material, wading through it all can be a daunting task.
Here is our top ten list of financial resources:
1) The Bible
The BIble is the foundation of all financial resources. Every other book written about finances must line up with the guidance given in the Word of God. Whether it be the Proverbs or Jesus’ parables, the Bible has a wealth of financial information.

2) Dave Ramsey
Dave Ramsey has been a pioneer in personal Biblical finances. He has written many books, spoken all over the United States and has a radio show which gives practical tips on how to become debt free. His best books and courses are as follows:
- Financial Peace University is an extraordinarily valuable tool for becoming debt free. Churches all across Canada have done this course and you can even attend online.
- Smart Money, Smart Kids is another video series designed for parents to teach their kids about money and how to be generous people.

3) Randy Alcorn
Randy Alcorn is another great author who looks at financial stewardship and managing God’s money. He is the founder of Eternal Perspectives Ministry and the author of more than 40 books. Some of his best are as follows:
- The Treasure Principle
- Managing God’s Money
- The Law of Rewards
Tip: Ordering audiobooks is a really great way to make the most of your long commutes. Instead of leaving it has dead time, use it to inspire yourself to change.
4) Andy Stanley
Andy Stanley is the son of Charles Stanley and is another great teacher and speaker on stewardship. He looks at some of the practical tools to accomplish God’s purpose with His money through you!
- Fields of Gold: looks at generosity in giving and our fear of lack.
- Balanced: is a more practical tool and is available in a small group study or sermon guide for those who are interested in this approach.
- How to be Rich: examines our fascination with the rich and how we have already achieved wealth.

5) The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley and William Danko
This book embraces our fascination with the millionaire and busts some common myths in our own thinking about how millionaires live. It addresses our own perception about the American dream and contrasts it with the lifestyles of the millionaires living in our own backyards.

6) Your Money Counts by Howard Dayton
Howard Dayton is the founder of Crown Financial Ministries and a powerful resource to becoming financially educated and free. Howard looks at what the Bible has to say about finances and how that can be applied.

7) Money Matters by Larry Burkett
With a teen, kids and adult version of this book, Larry Burkett’s Money Matters is definitely a must-have for any family. The three different books look at the different challenges facing teens, adults and kids as they learn to manage money.
8) Taming the Money Monster by Ron Blue
Getting into debt happens so easily and gradually that sometimes we wake up and realize we are very far down the rabbit hole. Ron Blue’s Taming the Money Monster looks at practical ways to get out of debt and stay out of debt.
