The Lord spoke to Bron Vasic many years ago about surrendering not only his life, but his business practises to the Lord. He is on a journey of Doing Business With God (DBWG).
Doing Business With God is a journey and a process.
It is becoming anything that you want to be.
It is a commitment to simply be.
Being.
Being who you are when you are surrounded by others that are doing.
Doing things that may not line up with your values, your present capabilities or your own unique ways.
DBWG is like being on a mission.
In our relationship with the Lord, we let God be in us, and allow ourselves to be that new person that brings pleasure and glory to God, and is obedient to His way.
It is not about us!
It is really about being who God has made us to be, and doing what God has built us to do. I remember when teaching fitness classes (yes, I did that!) and encouraging people to do what they could do. Not worrying about who was beside them, I taught them to focus on where they were and what they could do. Everyone in the class was at different places of fitness and had a range of abilities. But they were all there.
That is exactly what DBWG is all about: it is about you doing what you can without worrying about everyone else.
Stepping into simplicity
The Bible teaches in Psalm 23 that the Lord is our Shepherd, and we shall not be in want. When we follow Him and allow Him to lead, we will fall into step behind Him and do life the way He intends.
As I read those words one morning, it seemed the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders. The simplicity of living this truth is profound: allow God to do what shepherds do in leading, and I just need to follow.
For me, that has meant being in the entrepreneurial mission field, providing comfort, encouragement and wisdom for entrepreneurial practices, as well as taking the complexity away from matters and allowing God to show the way forward. Through this process, as I have been following the Shepherd, I have helped entrepreneurs understand their purpose and start a journey of simplicity, following the Good Shepherd. By allowing the Holy Spirit to be in me, I shine His light and help entrepreneurs find their way.
Practical steps
As I continue to journey in DBWG, and as I learn to simply follow the Good Shepherd, there are some practical tips that have encouraged my own growth.
- Embrace Change – Allow the work that God is doing in us to make a difference.
- Challenge the Status Quo – If we are not changing ourselves and the rest of the things around us, we cannot move forward.
- Constant Dialogue with God – Keep Jesus at the source, as the source, of everything.
- Work in the gifting that you have – God wants us to operate with the gifts he has given us.
- Look ahead without fear – As we remain focused on Christ, we gain more and more clarity and focus about purpose and practical steps. It is not about quick fixes, but hard work that will make a difference.
By allowing God and the light of Jesus to flow through us, we are being the appropriate conduit of God’s love into our families and businesses. Let’s allow ourselves to be the best that God has designed us to be. The relationship we have with God is not just for us, but is to bless others. You have more than enough capacity to fulfill your call because you have more than enough in Christ.
