Community in the midst of fear
Community. Fellowship. Living in relationship.
Dave and Reb talk with Ray Borg from Compass Canada this week about how these three things help combat fear in our financial journey. Gathering with others to talk about our own financial journeys can be scary, but once we are part of a safe group of people, it can help liberate us into more and more financial freedom.
“It provides that safe environment where people can take off the masks they wear,” Borg says.
A small group can be a place where people share their fears, experiences, and perceptions of how to manage things. By sharing and risking, and being vulnerable, fear can fade away.
“We are not in an accountable community to point a finger,” Reb adds. “But a place where we realize we all struggle with the same financial issues. Being in community creates a place for creative ideas and perspectives that we can share with one another to help each other on the path to financial fitness.”
Borg also points out that small groups can be a safe environment for couples to put forth their ideas and feelings in front of others, that they couldn’t do just between the two of them. This can bring resolution, as the community walks beside them, encouraging the couple to be honest and forgiving.
