Equality and Sharing
The goal is equality.
Ray Borg of Compass Canada helps Dave and Reb dig into the words found in 2 Corinthians 8 that reveal God’s heart for equality amongst His people.
“Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality, as it is written: “The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little. (verses 13-15)
It is as Mother Theresa has also said, giving is really sharing. In sharing what we have, and in receiving from others what we need, a level ground of equality is created.
However, Ray points out that equality does not mean everyone receives the same thing, and that is where our thinking really needs to change.
“A mother and father look after the needs of the children. But if you have certain needs for specific sports or as they get older one needs braces, the parents are looking after the kids equally but it looks differently from a dollars and cents perspective,” he says.
Dave and Reb challenge listeners this week to spend time with God, asking Him to show them what “giving that is sharing” looks like in their own lives. To hear the whole conversation, tune in.
