Words like Gold
“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in silver.” – Proverbs 25:11
If you want to be rich, simply speak a good word in the right place and right time. Scripture speaks clearly to us that we are to speak kind words that build up one anothe
r. These words offer grace to those who hear, and according to Proverbs these words are like gold and silver – wealth, riches and beauty.
In this week’s show, Dave and Reb look at money and communication, and how to find this kind of wealth in the midst of financial difficulties.
“I find it interesting that the words in Proverbs tell us our fitting words are like gold and silver,” Reb says. “You have wealth and beauty if a good word is spoken.”
Dave and Reb both acknowledge that good words can sometimes be hard to find when you talk about money. It is important to remember, that money isn’t the problem when it comes to money conversations. We are usually the problem – how we behave and how we communicate about money.
There are several ways to experience this wealth of kindness and words. Setting a regular time for a financial date or money meeting, where you intentionally decide to talk about your finances, is the first step. Then making sure you communicate about how you are feeling regarding your money stress is important.
“Look each other in the eye, and remember your spouse is not the enemy,” Dave says. “Tell them out loud and remember that God wants you to be unified, and on the same page financially.”
And if you need to, Dave and Rebecca suggest putting the verses found in Proverbs 12:25, Proverbs 25:11 and 12, and Ephesians 4:29, right in front of you when you are having your financial date.
“Pray together,” Dave says. “And let your kind words set the table, and set the stage for your financial date.”
