Keys to Talking Money in Your Marriage

The emotional baggage we carry into relationships is sometimes not easy to understand, especially around marriage and finances.

On today’s show, Dr. Grant Mullen, a mental health physician from Grimsby, Ontario talks with Dave and Reb about the hope people can find in their marriages when they start to discover what is motivating their behaviour and their arguments around money.

“If we have great relationships, money won’t be a source of conflict,” says Dr. Grant. “But if you have money arguments you need to understand there are psychological reasons for your behaviour around money, and people use finances, sometimes, to treat their emotional pain.”

Looking at verses found in Ephesians 4, Dave and Reb encourage listeners to take God’s admonishments to heart: “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

To get to the place of this kindness and compassion God speaks of, it is sometimes necessary to look at where you come from and how your past experiences have formed you. Looking at your life, can help you determine and understand why you aren’t kind and compassionate, and can lead you on a healing path. In an upcoming conference at the Stittsville Community Bible Church, Dr. Grant Mullen will be focusing on how to do this by helping you learn to live a transformed life and heal your marriage.
