Being Shepherded by God
Personal Reflections from MTE coach Bron Vasic
We were talking about Psalm 23 on today’s radio show Let’s Talk Money with Dave and Reb on CHRI. Dave and Reb were discussing the beauty of being shepherded by God, and as I took part in the discussion I was reminded of God’s care and how He is a shepherd who leads me.
In a previous More Than Enough blog, I wrote about the impact that Psalm 23 had on me one day, not long ago, when I was feeling down and tired.
On my desk was one of the first Bibles ever given to me by a great client, at a time when I was struggling with life and all that goes with that. I unzipped the cover to this beautiful Bible that day, and it immediately opened to this famous passage of Psalm 23. Many of us know it as a well-known Scripture passage read at funerals.
But it has come to mean so much to me for my daily living, especially since that day when the words jumped out at me: “The Lord is my Shepherd and I shall lack nothing.”
Wow, that struck me like a bolt of lightning and as I reflected more on those words, they started to sink in: God is my Shepherd and He has everything that I ever need! I felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders. I would encourage everyone to read that Psalm again and absorb the comfort that comes from those words and that truth. The image of God’s comfort in that passage is so powerful.
Thoughts began to flood my mind.
- Rely on God for everything! God determines my future and I should thank God for that!
- Give the world my true self; the authentic me, and I cannot go wrong with that!
- God is before me and behind me, and His Grace is sufficient.
- Actively wait. Actively waiting is the notion that as you await direction and guidance from God you continue doing what you do. In other words, it is not an option to do nothing. You need to stay engaged in what you do and keep doing what you are doing.
- Allow for the “AND”. This notion is something that is so important, because as we actively wait, you build IN the AND. So many people live within the “OR” but I believe that instead of the “OR” God wants us to do the “AND”. It is about a level of engagement that will take you out of your comfort zone and allow for exploration and experimentation into where God may want you to be in the future.
- Make more and more affirmations. This essentially means acknowledging God in all of your ways, and praising God with more and more words of praise or hallelujahs.
That day
I didn’t feel any seismic shocks that day. I didn’t hear any bells tolling for me. But the realization that I have a Shepherd – that God is my Shepherd who is the light of my life – was one of those life transformational moments. And it came with the gentleness of His small voice, and the love and peace that only God can give.
As I reflect on that day, and that moment, I am reminded that it is the many small things in life that are so powerful!
So don’t ignore the small things.
Remember:
- Whatever you are going through, God is with you.
- He knows what you need.
- He is your gentle Shepherd
Back to today’s show
As we continued the discussion and got into more practical financial and entrepreneurial discussions on the radio show, we kept coming back to the shepherding nature of God. He doesn’t change. He hasn’t changed – ever. He is the same yesterday, today, and will be forever.
So if He was King David’s Shepherd, He is also yours.
He was your Shepherd yesterday, He is your Shepherd today, and He will continue to be tomorrow. May your heart take courage in this truth and may He carry you through the joys and sorrows, accomplishments and challenges of each day.
