Time to celebrate!
These are days of sorrow, challenges, heartbreak and trouble. However, these are also days of opportunity, growth, joy, and love. And it is time to celebrate.
On Let’s Talk Money, Dave and Reb talk about the importance of celebrating, especially financial victories, no matter how small or large. In light of Canada Day this weekend, the couple encourages listeners to take joy in what God is doing in 2018. They reference the story of Nehemiah to give us all a point of reference.
In the book of Nehemiah, God tells us the story of Nehemiah and the people of Israel rebuilding the walls of the ruined city of Jerusalem. On the first day of the seventh month, they stop to hear the words of God’s law. Their response is beautiful. They weep and mourn when they hear the truth. They bow down and worship. But before long, Nehemiah, Ezra and the Levites calm the people and encourage them: “This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep…Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (see verses 9 to 10)
The joy of the Lord is our strength, and part of that joy is found in community with others as we share our journey, sorrows and victories.
“Sometimes in our finances there is such a discouraging focus on scarcity, or lack, or how we fall short,” Reb says. “But in Nehemiah, The Word teaches us that though there is a time for repentance, weeping and mourning, there is also a time to rejoice and take joy in the strength of God in community with others.”
Dave and Reb leave us with homework this week: Simply celebrate. Gather with others. Share food and share in the small or large victories you have lived out in your spiritual and financial lives this year. Make it a part of your Canada Day celebrations. You can then post your stories on More Than Enough’s Facebook Wednesday Wins post found at https://www.facebook.com/MoreThanEnoughFinancial/photos/a.557449404315636.1073741825.328403387220240/1872984189428811/?type=3&theater.
