Commitment to Debt-Free Living

Today, Dave and Reb have a conversation around the commitment needed to get out of debt, and stay out of debt. They find themselves wandering into discussions around shame, intentional living and choices, and discovering the sin issues behind the burden of debt.

They dig into the story and Scripture around the formation of the church in Acts 2:40-47, and how the first Christians devoted themselves “continually” and “daily” to the teachings of the apostles, and “breaking bread” and praying with others.

Reb shares that it is in the Scriptures we find a template or blueprint for practical living.

“Just as the early church committed themselves to the teaching of the apostles, we are to commit to the same teachings of Christ,” she says. “In the Word of God, we find our answers, but as it was for them, it is also for us – continual devotion and commitment. It is there – in His Word and His Presence- we commit to living without debt.”

Dave reiterates the importance of remembering that debt is a burden and a weight, not a sin.

“It is something we need to remember and understand: God wants us to live freely from all debt, including financial debt,” he says.

Dave and Reb also leave us with homework for the week: Decide on one simple financial change – like using cash only, tracking your spending, or putting an extra $20 on your debt – and then tell a friend who will hold you accountable. Then share your story on More Than Enough’s Facebook Wednesday Wins page. https://www.facebook.com/MoreThanEnoughFinancial/photos/a.557449404315636.1073741825.328403387220240/1872984189428811/?type=3&theater

Remember, making these changes is foundational to our commitment to debt-free living, and comes one step at a time.
