In an effort to understand the money stories and parables found in Scripture, Dave and Reb invite Rev. Ray Borg to discuss the parable of the talents on today’s show. Found in Matthew 25, they look at how God is asking each of us to invest the income we earn into His Kingdom purposes.
“There are many ways I have read this passage growing up, and a lot of the time it had to do with using my talents and gifts in God’s work,” Reb says. “But the more I read it, the more I see how God wants me to use my income in ways that honour Him and pour back into what He wants to do. And He doesn’t want me giving less than the least, as the one servant is guilty of doing.”
Less than the least. Together Dave and Reb look at how going into debt can fit that description.
“This is not an easy passage to read in light of our propensity for going into debt,” Dave says. “But we need to consider, honestly, how we are investing in the Kingdom of God, or if we are investing our finances at all.”
Listen in to their conversation, as they work out their understanding of this Scripture passage.
