Continuing the discussion around reference points on “Let’s Talk Money” today, Dave and Reb look at the topic of purpose in our lives and how purpose is a strong, long-term motivator in our financial journey.

So, what’s your purpose? What’s the point to all the work you are doing? What’s the point of racking up debt upon debt?

“Knowing your reference points, and knowing your purpose is a crucial part in motivating you to pay down your debt,” Dave says. “While pain and pleasure are good short-term motivators, having goals, dreams and purposes that are greater than your debt will give you the greatest gain in the long run.”

“Without purpose, you are like someone getting in a car without a destination. You head out, but you do so, aimlessly not knowing where you want to go.”

God speaks to His people about the importance of purpose and vision in Proverbs 29 and says that without it, people will perish. Reb says that financial purpose is part of that vision for our lives.

“When we pursue God’s Kingdom and His ultimate purpose for our lives, our finances will be a part of that alignment in our lives,” she says.
