It started out as a Facebook rant about the culture of giving in western Christian church culture and turned into an invitation to join Dave and Reb on today’s radio show “Let’s Talk Money”. Long-time friend and Pastor Pam Dyck from Abbotsford, B.C., joins Dave and Reb in a discussion about becoming cheerful givers, and how the western church has been shaping our ideas about giving to God.

“After reading Pam’s concerns about how we are asking people to give, I knew I wanted to have this discussion in person on the radio show,” Reb says.

Pastor Dyck explains that she is concerned  “the church” is encouraging financial giving in a way that offers some kind of reward in return, like a membership with different tiers or levels of approval and recognition based solely on the amount of money people give.

“The Church or ministry no longer teaches or preaches, about asking God what to give, or that the act of giving and being obedient has its own reward with God,” she says.

In light of all that is happening in this global pandemic environment, Dave and Reb discuss this topic in hopes of encouraging listeners to seek God’s heart in their financial giving.

“We want to see people giving out of a heart of love for God and others, giving and sharing not just their finances, but their time, talent and other resources,” Reb says. “Giving is all about the heart, and is a journey of learning to become cheerfully selfless.”
