Pastor Ray Borg joins Dave and Reb on “Let’s Talk Money” today to talk about two Kingdom of Heaven parables that Jesus gave to His disciples. Found in Mathew 13:44-46, together they discuss the significance of these stories from Jesus’ perspective, as well as ours.
“The man in the parable sold all he had when he discovered the hidden treasure, and he did it with joy,” Reb says. “That really stands out to me, that what we do or give for the kingdom isn’t a hardship but joy because of what we gain in relationship with God and others.”
Pastor Ray, Ministry Liaison for Financial Discipleship Canada agrees. There is a shift in focus from what we “give up for God” to what we gain as we pursue the Kingdom of God.
“It is the joy of discovery in the Kingdom of God, as we release ourselves to God,” he says.
These parables also speak to how Jesus pursued the Kingdom of Heaven, as He gave up His life to pursue us – His people.
“We are the pearls of great price, and the hidden treasures,” Reb says. “What He gave to find me, love me, and save me, just makes me want to offer myself to Him in return.”
