Dave and Reb welcome Ottawa financial advisor Bold Kere to today’s episode of “Let’s Talk Money”, as they uncover the sometimes difficult and mysterious topic of cryptocurrency. Today’s show is the first of two parts where they define and explain this new form of currency in the digital world.
Today’s discussion focuses on the “five Ws” of the crypto world, including understanding crypto’s most popular token – Bitcoin.
As Bold explains, crypto tokens are not usually used in daily financial transactions, but are a form of financial investment for the future. Today, Bitcoin is worth around $45,000 USD.
To learn more about crypto currency, tune in to today’s podcast. If you want to experience a more in depth discussion, Bold recommends a course by Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler. Here is the link to the class he gave at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on the subject of crypto before he became SEC chairman: https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/sloan-school-of-management/15-s12-blockchain-and-money-fall-2018/video-lectures/
“In the course, he dives into the history and technology behind Bitcoin and others, and how it could open up a whole new world of possibilities beyond the financial aspects, just like the internet has opened up a new world reality,” Bold says. “He openly states he is neutral on Bitcoin, and is currently looking at ways to protect investors from scams and fraud.”
