The discussion of tithing may or may not be a controversial subject for you, depending on your perspective. Today on “Let’s Talk Money with Dave and Reb,” the co-hosts welcome Rev. Ray Borg from Financial Discipleship Canada and notmine.ca to discuss the subject of tithing and giving from a cheerful heart, as they provide a perspective of grace and generosity. They don’t provide black and white answers, but do their best to create a foundation of truth and understanding for those wondering if tithing applies to Christians today. Looking at the story of the first tithe by Abram in Genesis 14, they dig into the heart of tithing and giving as an act of worship.

“Having the Holy Spirit living in our lives, means we allow Him to access our hearts, check out our motives and bring to light areas like tithing,” Rev. Borg says. “I do believe it is part of worship unto Him…and as our hearts are yielded to Him and we ask Him to lead us in our giving and as an act of worship, we give as He directs. Our giving and tithing are not done out of legalism, shame and condemnation, or even manipulation, but as extravagant worship unto our King.”

Whether we follow a 10 per cent rule for giving, or give much more or much less than that, Dave and Reb urge listeners to do it out of a heart of gratitude and relationship with the Lord.

“This isn’t about following the rules, but living out of a relationship with God, and seeing the wonderful adventures of giving that He invites each of us to be a part of,” Reb says.
