Dear Listener,
Perhaps you are asking yourself, “What are Dave and Reb still doing here? 500 episodes?”
On one level we are talking about money and the heart issues around money. On another, I realize we are addressing something much deeper in the Christian culture, a culture that exists within a world given over to consumption and debt accumulation. We are addressing the doubt that God is good, and we are standing here and answering the question that Satan asked Eve in the garden – “Did God really say?”
Does God really care for you more than the birds of the air and the flowers of the field? Is He still good if He does not answer your prayers the way you’d hoped? Maybe you have had to sell your house and give up that dream for the time being? Maybe God is doing something deeper in you. Maybe you’ve lost your job, your health, a family member, and you really are wondering if the God of the Bible is your God as well?
We have been speaking for 500 episodes, sometimes in repetition, discussing the practical and the heart issues around money. How many different ways can you say “build an emergency cushion” or “get out of debt as a gazelle flees a hunter?” How many ways can we remind ourselves that Jesus said serve God and not mammon, or you will love one and hate the other? How many different ways can you say serve God only, share what you have with the poor, be generous, and give 100 per cent of yourself to God, not just 10?
We have been standing here as a reminder, an Ebenezer stone of sorts, of God’s faithfulness. He is who He says He is. He is who Jesus said He is. A good Father who knows what we need before we ask Him. He is Jehovah Jireh, our provider. He is Jehovah Nissi, our banner. He is El Roi, the God who sees you and sees me.
We have been here for 500 episodes to speak to your doubts about who God is, what He does, and specifically what that means directly for your life. We have desired to speak lovingly with truth, declaring the praises of God, the will of God, the ways of God, glorifying the One who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. We once were not a people, but now are the people of God stewarding what He has given us as a sign of love in a world that is growing cold with lovelessness (See 1 Peter 2:9-10 and Matthew 24:12).
We have been here speaking to your doubt and our own, raising up the banner of His name over us that He is the God who provides, He is the God who sees. We will continue to remind you and remind ourselves of the indescribable gift of Himself, His love, and His wisdom, particularly in our financial lives.
We will do this here until He says do it no longer.
To borrow a phrase from the Mandalorian, “This is The Way.”
