Every day in every financial situation the question of “how much is enough” just has to be answered.  Refuse to acknowledge and answer this question and it will answer itself – with a resounding MORE!

Let me use an example that borders on bathroom humor but bear with me; we have a busy house with 5 kids and right now we also have another family of 4 living with us that makes for 11 people using the bathroom.  A couple of times now I have found myself settling on the “throne” only to see the end of the paper roll is near.    I have two options – call for help (that is a little embarrassing) or learn to use less paper, I found myself changing the amount of paper that I needed and still getting the job done! (Here ends the story)

Now how does this little scene relate to money and the question of “how much is enough?”  Using more or less paper is not a question of money, morality or spirituality,  it is simply a recognition that I had gotten used to using a certain amount of paper, and because I was forced to, I realized that I could accomplish the same thing with less .  As coaches that is our role to open people’s eyes to the possibility of change in any spending situation.  By asking people the question of “how much is enough?”  And helping them to realize that contentment can only be found when they have an answer that is different from MORE, you can break one of the links in the chain of bondage to money.

I think Thomas Jefferson said it well when he penned “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance”.
