Living and Giving to Value Others

Looking with the eyes of Christ into the heart of people and their circumstances is an essential part of the heart of giving. Dave and Reb dig into this topic with Ray Borg of Financial Discipleship Canada, and together they discuss how important it is to value others. This is a continuation of their recent monthly discussions regarding the heart of God and how different that looks from the heart of Mammon.

“When we follow the way of the world, Mammon becomes a measuring stick for how we value people,” Ray says. “We use that measuring stick instead of applying the heart and love of God as the measuring stick,” Ray says.

God sees that all His created people are people of value and worth, no matter how they look on the outside. He does not measure their value based on their level of wealth, influence or education.

Valuing what God values means we will see the needs of others, have compassion for others, and not selfishly keep for ourselves, what would be a help and benefit to others.

“When we are prompted by the Lord, we willingly seek to serve people, esteem them and sow into their lives,” Ray says. “It is offering even a cup of cold water in the name of Jesus.”

Dave says that the spirit of Mammon is the opposite: putting value on wealth, position and power.

“It is also selfish, and works on us continually so that we keep our money and possessions to ourselves,” he says. “It also lies to us telling us that we are better off being self-reliant than relying on God or others.”
