Making Every Financial Decision a Spiritual One

On this week’s show, Dave and Reb revisit their conversation with Rev. Ray Borg of Financial Discipleship Canada, looking at the decisions that draw us closer or further from the presence of God.

Considering the story of the prodigal son, alongside issues of trust, desire, and love, they discuss what it looks like to make every financial decision a spiritual one. They tackle the heart of what it looks like when possessions grip our hearts, and we come face-to-face with the emptiness we feel.

Dave shares how sometimes looking at his bank account can draw him from trusting God.

“The number in the bank account represents something – comfort and security perhaps – and if the numbers are low I am more apt not to trust,” he says. “When the numbers are high, I am more easily drawn to the heart of God, because life seems good with money in the bank. However, when I look at this honestly, I realize there is something wrong with what I believe and who I trust as the source of my life, if I am trusting the numbers in my bank account.”

Ray talks about this as a place where we need to see ourselves acting and living either dependent on God in all things, or independent of Him. There is no in between.
