Christmas season is upon us and advent is just around the corner. On “Let’s Talk Money” today, Dave and Reb invite Rev. Ray Borg from Financial Discipleship Canada (FDC) to discuss the story of the three wise men found in Matthew 2. Together they ponder what kind of gifts we can bring to Jesus this Advent season, in the midst of a year of challenges and difficulties.

“When I was thinking about this podcast and the story of the wise men, I was thinking about the Christmas pageants our kids loved to be in when they were young,” Reb says. “I started to wonder what part each of us could play in the pageant of Christ’s coming. Would I be more like the wise men in seeking Christ, or more like Herod as a self-seeking, fearful king?”

While we all may say we want to be like the wise men, how we live that out is more challenging.

“In taking the role of a wise man and pursuing Jesus, our hearts are more and more open to love and give to others,” Dave says. “This is an important piece to Christmas this year, especially when there is so much need around us.”

The wise men had their own obstacles to overcome on their journey to the Christ-child, but they persevered because of the calling, the gifts, and their passionate desire to see the baby king. Listen in and open your hearts to God’s calling for you this Advent season.
